You can enjoy the natural fashion that does not become too hard.

  • A stylish atmosphere reminiscent of the taste of well-used indigo
While staying calm, we are particular about the fine expression of the thread.

Original fabric born from "I like the color of indigo dyeing"

  • KOJIMAYA FABRIC's representative original fabric is indigo dyed fabric. The fabric that is woven after dyeing the thread in indigo is unique with fine kassure and unevenness. It is used for traditional clothing such as kendo wear and festival clothing, and has been loved for its taste that increases with use. The fabric has been washed to give it a vintage feel, and it is also used for bags and clothes, and is attracting attention as an adult material with a mature feel.It is easy to use and is recommended for autumn and winter wear.
  • Some of the people who were interested in traditional indigo dyeing fabrics
"I didn't know that indigo dyeing fades! 』
"I'm afraid of the color staining my clothes and bags...it's hard to do. 』
“Indigo seems to be surprisingly difficult to coordinate. 』

There was a lot of things to say.

Based on such a voice, we started making new fabrics.
The more you use it, the more mature it becomes. While cherishing that atmosphere, we have created a fabric that is easy to use in today's life while reminiscent of indigo dyeing, using the tradition and new technology that has been making textiles for many years.

This series has 3 variations

  • This page is navy.
  • The color is faded, uneven, and has a deep shade.
    Japanese modern loose haori
Also recommended for jackets that match denim.
  • A quiet expression inspired by the murmuring of a river.
It is a soothing calm blue.
  • Cotton material for fall and winter. Recommended for jackets and skirts that take advantage of its suppleness.
  • Though it is thick, it does not feel stiff.
  • It shrinks about 5% after washing, but it has a soft texture.
  • It may differ from the actual color due to the color of the monitor.
  • The surface with unevenness and the back side with fine grains. You can enjoy an interesting expression with either one.
  • It is thin among sashiko weaves.
It can be sewn with a home sewing machine.
Use a needle and thread for heavy fabrics, and sew slowly while looking at the unevenness.
It frays a little easily, so please be careful about the size you cut.

The charm of sashiko-ori is sashiko and sashiko-ori

loom

“Sashiko” Laying fabrics and embroidering them by hand In the olden days, when cloth was valuable, layers of fabric were embroidered for protection against the cold and for reinforcement. As decorations, patterns with wishes and prayers are sometimes applied. Also, in the Edo period, it was used as a firefighter's costume because it is a durable fabric.
Even today, it is popular as a handicraft that combines traditional patterns on dish towels and colorful fabrics and threads.

“Sashiko weave” A fabric that is woven with a loom to create the texture of sashiko. Thanks to the development of looms, it became possible to produce this type of durable material with uneven surfaces, and it is now used as material for judo and kendo uniforms.

Indigo-dyed sashiko weave is also attractive Deep colors with a vintage feel

Hataki dyeing

If you look closely at the surface of the fabric, there are dark and thin areas.
One of the things that makes it possible to create such an expression is that it is indigo dyeing. When indigo is exposed to air, it oxidizes and turns indigo.
Another reason is that it is skein dyed. The skein dyeing method is a repetition of dyeing and loosening by hand. And you can dye dark to the core of the thread. Both the uneven feeling unique to manual work and the characteristic that the indigo dye turns indigo when exposed to air are absolutely necessary.
Furthermore, when the shades stand out due to the washing process, you can feel even more depth in combination with the unevenness. It gives a deep color that looks like it has been used.

Focus on overseas brands

overseas

We also receive orders for our indigo sashiko weave from overseas brands. I love the unique colors and texture. In 2020, we will collaborate with Belgian historical hat brand HERMAN Hermann. Hanyu City in Saitama Prefecture and Durbuy in Belgium are sister cities, so we had a wonderful relationship.
For several years now, a fabric shop in London has been handling our fabrics. We are very happy to be able to deliver Japanese materials from our factory in Hanyu, Saitama Prefecture to people who love handmade products around the world.
