Sashiko and Sashiko weave

loom
“Sashiko” Laying fabrics and embroidering them by hand In the old days, when cloth was valuable, fabrics were layered and embroidered for cold protection and reinforcement. As decorations, patterns with wishes and prayers are sometimes applied. Also, in the Edo period, it was used as a firefighter's costume because it is a durable fabric. Even today, it is popular as a handicraft that combines traditional patterns on dish towels and colorful fabrics and threads.

“Sashiko weave” A fabric that is woven with a loom to create the texture of sashiko. Thanks to the development of looms, it became possible to produce this type of durable material with uneven surfaces, and it is now used as material for judo and kendo uniforms.

Focus on overseas brands

overseas
We also receive orders for our indigo sashiko weave from overseas brands. I love the unique colors and texture. In 2020, we will collaborate with Belgian historical hat brand HERMAN Hermann. Hanyu City in Saitama Prefecture and Durbuy in Belgium are sister cities, so we had a wonderful relationship. For several years now, a fabric shop in London has been handling our fabrics. We are very happy to be able to deliver Japanese materials from our factory in Hanyu, Saitama Prefecture to people who love handmade products around the world.
